Our Founder

At the heart of Studio Mao is our founder, Yanzheng Mao, whose unwavering passion for photography and dedication to capturing exceptional moments have been the driving force behind our success.

Mao's journey in the world of photography began in 2007 when he entered Renmin University of China. While majoring in Labor Relations, he honed his photography skills and developed a deep appreciation for the art form.

After graduation, Mao embarked on a remarkable five-year tenure at China Daily, a prominent publication. This period allowed him to not only refine his photography skills but also provided a platform to showcase his talents to a wide audience. His work at China Daily gained significant recognition, and his popularity in the field began to soar.

Fueled by his passion and driven by a desire to make a distinct mark in the world of photography, Mao made a bold decision at the end of 2015. He took the courageous step of leaving China Daily to follow his dream, giving birth to Studio Mao during this pivotal moment.

Mao's transition from a successful career at China Daily to the establishment of Studio Mao is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the art of photography. His dedication and unique vision have not only shaped our studio's identity but have also made it a thriving and respected institution in the realm of professional photography.

Mao had the distinct honor of serving as a two-time Olympic volunteer, contributing his time and skills to both the Beijing 2008 and Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. During the Winter Olympic Games in 2022, he took on the role of a photo assistant at the Capital Indoor Stadium, which exclusively hosted the figure skating events.

It was during his time as a volunteer that Mao developed a deep admiration for figure skating. Inspired by this newfound passion, he took it upon himself to acquire official knowledge of the sport. Moreover, he harbored a strong desire to capture more captivating moments in figure skating through his photography.

In preparation for the 2023 World Championships in Saitama, Mao decided to apply for media accreditation from the International Skating Union (ISU). Much to his astonishment and delight, the ISU approved his application, granting him official access for the first time.

Following the event, Mao's photography garnered significant attention and appreciation, not only from renowned media outlets but also from the athletes themselves. His work quickly gained traction, receiving numerous likes and retweets on social media platforms. Notably, Mao's exceptional photography skills earned him a substantial following, particularly within the figure skating community.

As a result of his outstanding work, Mao has been invited to cover all domestic events organized by the Chinese Figure Skating Association. His photographs play a crucial role in conveying the intricate narratives of figure skating and amplifying its voice.

In the upcoming season, Mao is committed to capturing even more captivating moments from figure skating events, further contributing to the sport's promotion and appreciation.
